Terms and Conditions: part time position, initially 12 months contract

Background

South East Europe Sustainable Energy Policy (SEE SEP) is a 4 year, network based, EC and BTD funded programme whose main aim is to enhance the collaborative capacity of CSO networks and empower citizens to engage in fact based dialogue with key decisions makers to influence policy and practice for a more sustainable energy system in South East Europe, aligned with key EU Policies and Directives.

Description of duties:

The communications officer (CO) will be leading the co-ordination and roll out of communications efforts of both the SEE SEP Partners and the Lead Partner in relation to a more sustainable energy policy for South East Europe.

Main duties:

1. Online and offline communications products:

• Together with NGO partners and knowledge institutes ensure that technical knowledge on People Centered Sustainable Energy values is translated into understandable communication and promotional materials (policy briefs, brochures etc.).

• Write and edit the web-based information on our work for website and other social media platforms.

2. Regular reporting on advocacy and communications achievements. Support strategic development of our advocacy and communications:

• Coordinate review and analysis of relevant policy and planning processes,

• Develop and coordinate implementation of a policy and communication strategy

• Develop and maintain relations with governments, civil society, EC & EU Institutions and private sector stakeholders

3. Media outreach:

• Develop and maintain relations with a network of journalists and other media.

• Identify and develop media outreach opportunities; develop press releases.

• Support outreach by the WI-IP spokesperson (director) through media and policy platforms.

Profile

The successful candidate is an self-starter, creative thinker, with a passion for communicating in bite sized digestable messages issues around people centered sustainable development.

S/he is an experienced networker who knows his/her way in policy environments and who is able to work in a creative way to bring fact based knowledge to the attention of the citizens of the region, policy makers and other stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

• A basic degree, with extensive Policy/ Communications experience.

• Demonstrated track record in managing campaigns at a strategic level and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, in an regional environment.

• Professional network of relevant contacts.

• Excellent communication skills in at least one language of the region (oral and written) with fluent English (oral and written).

• Demonstrated track record in writing and editing press releases, PPT's, website content, and social media content.

Skills and competencies that will be considered advantageous:

• Understanding and interest in energy/sustainability or related subjects in the field of consummer rights, energy poverty, renewable energy, energy efficieny, corruption and sustainable development.

• Working experience in the NGO sector and/or media.
